Integrated Litho-, Chemo- and Sequence Stratigraphy of the Ediacaran Gametrail Formation Across a Shelf-Slope Transect in the Wernecke Mountains, Yukon, Canada

The Ediacaran Gametrail Formation of northwestern Canada chronicles the evolution a complex carbonate ramp system in response to fluctuations relative sea level and regional tectonic subsidence alongside exceptional global change associated with Shuram carbon isotope excursion (CIE). Here, we use extensive outcrop exposures Wernecke Mountains Yukon, Canada, construct shelf-slope transect across CIE. Twelve stratigraphic sections are combined geological mapping suite geochemical analyses develop an integrated litho-, chemo-, sequence model for these strata. In more proximal Corn/Goz Creek region, represents storm-dominated inner outer depositional setting, while slope environments Nadaleen River region dominated by hemipelagic sedimentation, turbidites, debris flows. magnitude CIE is largest limestones which underwent sediment-buffered diagenesis, notably smaller inner-outer dolostones experienced fluid-buffered diagenesis. Our identified distinct structural panel within that was transported ~30 km via strike-slip motion during Mesozoic–Cenozoic Cordilleran orogeny. One location this block contains stromatolite reef extremely negative values down ~ -30‰, other overthickened ooid shoal does not preserve characteristic event. These deviations from usual expression along Mountains, elsewhere globally, provide useful examples how local tectonic, stratigraphic, and/or complexities can result unusually large or completely absent expressions globally recognized
